Spider veins are small, branching blood vessels that are visible through the skin, commonly appearing on the legs and face. They may be purple, red, or blue, making them noticeable and sometimes difficult to conceal.

At Kat Motlagh's Health Clinics, Dr. Katayoun Motlagh and her team will assess your unique needs and goals during your initial consultation. They will develop a customized treatment plan to effectively reduce the appearance of spider veins.

Causes of Spider Veins

Genetic Factors: A family history of spider veins can increase the likelihood of developing them.

Aging: As we age, veins can lose elasticity, making spider veins more likely to appear.

Hormonal Changes: Hormonal fluctuations, particularly in women, can contribute to the development of spider veins.

Prolonged Standing or Sitting: Occupations or activities that require long periods of standing or sitting can lead to spider veins due to increased pressure in the veins.

Obesity: Excess weight can add pressure to the veins, increasing the risk of developing spider veins.

Sun Exposure: Excessive sun exposure can damage the skin and lead to spider veins, especially on the face.

Types of Symptoms

Visible Veins: The most noticeable symptom is the appearance of small, web-like veins that are visible under the skin.

Discomfort: Some individuals may experience aching, burning, or throbbing sensations in the affected areas, although many people do not have any symptoms other than the visible veins.

Treatment Options

Laser Vein Removal with xeo® by Cutera: This non-invasive treatment uses targeted laser energy to reduce the appearance of spider veins.

  • Procedure: During the treatment, the xeo laser is directed at the spider veins. The laser energy causes the veins to collapse and eventually fade away.

  • Benefits: The procedure involves minimal discomfort, and there is typically no downtime, allowing patients to resume their normal activities immediately.

Sclerotherapy: This is a common procedure where a solution is injected directly into the spider veins, causing them to collapse and fade.

  • Procedure: A sclerosing agent is injected into the veins, which causes them to scar and close off. The treated veins eventually fade over a few weeks.

  • Benefits: Sclerotherapy is effective for both spider veins and small varicose veins, with minimal downtime.

Compression Stockings: Wearing compression stockings can help improve circulation and prevent spider veins from worsening.

  • Usage: These stockings apply gentle pressure to the legs, helping blood flow more efficiently and reducing the likelihood of developing new spider veins.

Laser Vein Reduction Treatment

Preparation: The treatment area is prepared, and a topical anesthetic may be applied to reduce discomfort.Laser

Application: A laser handpiece is used to deliver laser and light energy to the spider veins. The energy targets the blood vessels without damaging the surrounding skin.

Vessel Collapse: The laser energy causes the vein walls to collapse, effectively eliminating the visible veins.

Post-treatment Care

Bruising, redness, and swelling may occur but should subside within 7-10 days.

Avoid prolonged sun exposure and apply sunscreen frequently to the treated areas.

Results can vary, and multiple treatments might be necessary for optimal results.
